ASCII Art Made Easy

ASCII Art Made Easy

When I was at school, many decades ago in the dark ages. We had a computer room, with a computer. Attached to this computer was all sorts of wires, card punching data storage, a noisy dot matrix printer with sheets of sproket fed paper and a group of nerds that made up the computer club (they are all probably IT multi-millionaires by now!). If you weren’t in the club, you never got a look in. Occasionally, though, long sheets of paper would emerge with images made out of letters and would be pinned up outside the computer room. It […]

The first person to post a coherent comment on this article answering the following question wins an Apaganza Vector CoolKit of their choice!

I often use the layer effects options in Photoshop, they are a great time-saving tool. One of the small details that I find perticularly annoying is they default setting on the outer glow.

As you can see it is set to a sickly yellow at 75% opacity on the ‘screen’ setting. It’s a setting I, personally, never use… so here is the question…

How do you change the default settings for layer effects in Photoshop CS4?

Fast and furious photo montage in Photoshop

Fast and furious photo montage in Photoshop

Sometimes you have to help a pal out. A good old friend of mine emailed me last night asking if I could work up a poster for his outdoor adventure business based in the Lake Distict, UK. He had ‘knocked something up’ himself in Word (:)) and wasn’t too pleased with it.

I put aside 3 hours to try and improve on things. I had the photographs above and what I could download from his website (www.keswickoutdoors.com). I picked a particular photo to start off…

This, I decided to use as the central picture, not sure why, but you have to […]

Windy Fight Gear - Street Fashion

Windy Fight Gear - Street Fashion

Windy have been making professional sports fight equipment since the 1950’s. They are one of the world leaders in boxing gloves, pads and shorts. Their European dealer recently asked us if we would be intertested in designing a small (at first) range of Tshirts that could be worn as a gym or fashion item, again, of course we accepted the challenge. The theme was to be Thai with influences toward Tattoo art and Thai boxing (Muay Thai). Also, strangely, they were keen on one being of a heraldic nature. Following the Tshirt range we were also asked to ‘spice’ […]

Free Illustrator Tutorial

Free Illustrator Tutorial

Family friend ‘Uncle Vince’ has recently discovered ‘social networking’ on the internet, so, as a bit of fun, I set about creating a custom illustration in Adobe Illustrator for him to use as an avatar. I often joke that he looks like an east-end, hardman character out of the movie ‘Snatch’ or ‘Lock, Stock and smoking Barrels’ in most of his photos. So we picked a photo that looked more like his true character of friendliness and good nature!

Nice! The first task was to try and work out some shadow areas, I ran the photo through the posterize filter […]

Retro Magazine Art

Retro Magazine Art

If you are reading this you are already taking some time out from work, right?  I am a big fan of retro artwork, especially these magazine front covers from science publications from the 1920’s and 30’s. They are all visions/dreams of how the future might be. The ideas look a little naive now, but the illustrations still have charm and appeal. These images are from the modern mechanix blog (weblink at the bottom of this article). So why not sit back and be inspired by the ideas and dreams of a generation gone by…

These are just a few examples […]

Classic stationery and airborne adventures…

With the widespread use of Word and inkjet printers, most business tend to generate their own stationery with a logo dropped into their documents. Most don’t realise that it’s a false economy, inkjet inks are expensive!!

CSP Construction MD, Tom Coghlan, wanted something a bit more classic for his tropical construction company. The team at APAGANZA were happy to oblige.

First off we experimented with some logo options, something clean, simple and effective for summing up what Tom’s neat operation was about.

The final contenders (above) where then discussed and the ‘palm leaf’ option was chosen. We really […]

MIXX Promotional Video

MIXX Promotional Video

I was asked by the owners at Mixx Discotheque in Pattaya, Thailand if we could produce a promotional video for the club.

Of course we accepted the challenge….

The Brief: The client wanted an ‘Ibiza’ style promotional video showing the expensive interior of the club and the fusion of European and Thai customers. Mixx Club is located on Walking Street in Pattaya City, an area reknowned for bars, clubs, restaurants and non-stop entertainment. The competition is fierce between clubs and bars to attract the recent downfall in tourism currently in Thailand.

Working with ex-MTV Editor, Jim Wilson and Keeta Media HD Video […]
